Sept 19. 1906 Dear brother + family I received your 5 letter, papers and postal from Milwaukee, suppose you had a good time at the fair have you been to the Watertown fair? I guess I will go to the fair 10 next week to Preston, Bigalks and Blatters are going they all asked me. I will go where ever I have room. Preston is 18 miles from here. 15 Well, aunt Hannah and family is gone, moved to Cresco yesterday. had 8 loads without the wood that is there yet, sold there cow for $33. dollars, the 20 young chickens aunt Lydia took for .20 cents a piece, the old chickens Blatter took to Cresco today. I guess they get .08 cents a lb. I helped aunt Hannah 25 pack two days, aunt Lydia and Tillie helped also. that was work I tell you, I was sick and tired of it, she wanted me to go with her to Cresco 30 and help unpack but I would not do it. Aunt Tina went along, and will stay till tomorrow Tillie is also there, I am keeping house at Bigalks, I baked and 35 ironed today, the girls are gone to school, Henry and I were alone for dinner uncle Amel was gone to Harmony to the mill uncle Otto was here last 40 night, he is a queer man. I am allways glad when he is not around, aunt Hannah is his slave just like always, she worked so hard Monday, that 45 she was all broken down, yes- terday she could not bend down her back was so bad, aunt Lydia and Gotlieb went there at sunrise to work, they all 50 like aunt Hannah, for him they would not do it. Aunt Lydia, uncle Wm. and I had a great time yesterday by moveing, we tied a bottle under 55 one wagon. a lantren under one and Otto old shoe under another and put flowers on all the horses, had to do it when Otto was not looking, I tied 60 a bottle on John Bigalk wagons and uncle Wm tie a cup under it but when Otto seen it, he cut it of and threw away. on Amels wagon we put a 65 broom on one side and the old mop on the other, but when Otto came along, you ought to have seen how he threw it, every body was jolly, 70 but uncle Otto looked as sour as a p__pot, I thought he would be mad at me, but he talked allright to me this morning, and if he is mad I 75 don’t care a snap about it he is to sober to be happy Last Saterday we had a big surprise on Gericke’s, there were about 50 people. they knew 80 nothing about it. it surprised them when we all got on the porch and walked in. aunt Hannah got a fine rocking chair for $2.75 and a rug for $3.00. 85 and $1.10 in money they gave to old Mrs. Gericke. all the people brought nice things to eat. I know aunt Hannah liked it very much that the relatives 90 and neighbors thought of her and gave her such nice presents uncle Otto acted allright that night but I know that he did not kike it, for he told 95 Mrs. Hilke that he hoped that the people would keep away and not come and surprise them. Last Sunday it rained here 100 all forenoon I have not been to church as long as I have been out here, that Mass that I heard at Bristol has to last a long time. 105 Sunday afternoon it cleared up and then all of Bigalks, aunt Hannah and the girls, and Blatters and I all went to Oddessa Spring, it is very pretty there 110 but we only stayed there a little while, it began to thunder and so we had too hurry home. To night it is thundering and raining 115 again, it was very hot here today, Uncle Wm has the found- ation for his barn finished. uncle Otto did not build it. 120 he has another job in Cresco the jail is finished. Uncle Amel seen Mr. Red{e}cal in Harmony today, he wants me to come and visit them. 130 The first time that I was in Cresco. I met and had an interduction to Otto Volkman. I have enough by just seeing him. uncle Amel says 135 that he is the stinggest man in the state of Iowa. At aunt Hannah surprise I had an interduction to Lorena’s fellow he seems to 140 be a nise man, I think she will be married soon Goetsch’s keep it a secret, Lorena will move on Owen’s farm, near home Charley Krueger lived there. 145 he is moveing on aunt Hannah’s old farm, he moved some things today, they told him to leave by the first of Oct. and I am sure they will not 150 leave the house emty very long Arther Goetsch and wife were not at Hannah party the Stork is on the way there Amanda was not there, she 155 cannot take her boys out in the evening so far, the rest of Goetschs were all there, To bad Otto Lierman’s wife died and left those little children, 160 Is Martha Wendorf home yet?
